Chokha laage means “it looks good” in Marwari. This is how a Jodhpur workshop came to put its name on every tag.
Born in the blue city
Chokha Laage started in Jodhpur with a simple observation: the leather bags being made by hand in the old city were better than most of what we saw in the shops of Delhi and Mumbai, yet nobody outside Rajasthan knew the people making them.
So we put our name on the tag, kept every step of making in the city, and began selling directly to the people who carry our pieces. What began with one backpack pattern is today a small workshop of artisan families making bags, boho accessories, home decor and customised gifts.
This isn’t fast fashion. This is slow, made by hand, and meant to last.
Real hands, fair wages, one city
Every Chokha Laage piece passes through the same hands. Hides are chosen from local tanneries and vegetable-tanned, panels are cut by hand to make the most of each hide, and seams are saddle-stitched with waxed thread before the brass goes on.
Our artisans are paid by the piece at rates agreed together, not by the hour on a factory floor. Small batches mean every bag is inspected twice before it is tagged and packed.
